Bridging Heritage and Modern Identity: How We Helped Muscogee Nation Tell Their Story

At bao, we believe that video has the power to capture not just moments, but legacies. When the Muscogee Nation approached us to help unveil their new brand identity, we knew this project had to be more than just a standard brand film—it had to be a statement.

They wanted a piece that would honor their deep-rooted heritage while proudly showcasing their people in modern times. The final reveal of their new brand identity needed to feel momentous, something that would resonate deeply with their community and beyond. And to make the stakes even higher? This film would air during the 2020 Summer Olympics, broadcasting across the entire Oklahoma region on TV.

Crafting an Epic Brand Film

Our goal was to create a film that felt powerful, cinematic, and deeply authentic. This wasn’t just about showcasing history—it was about showing where the Muscogee Nation stands today, thriving in modern times while still carrying the strength of their ancestors.

The video we created blended striking visuals of Muscogee people in contemporary settings—leaders, artists and families—interwoven with subtle nods to their traditions and heritage. The pacing, cinematography, and score all worked together to build toward the emotional peak: the unveiling of their new brand identity.

Seeing their film air on TV during the Olympics, alongside some of the most iconic moments in global sports, made the project even more special. It wasn’t just an introduction to a new brand—it was a declaration of presence.

Explaining the Significance: A Hybrid Explainer Video

Beyond the cinematic brand film, we also helped the Muscogee Nation craft a direct-to-camera and animated hybrid explainer video. This piece served as an educational companion, breaking down the significance behind their new identity.

We wanted to make sure that every detail—the symbolism, the meaning, the vision—was communicated clearly to both the Muscogee people and the broader audience. The combination of live-action storytelling with animation helped bring these elements to life in an engaging and easily digestible way.

Why This Project Mattered

This was more than just a brand launch. It was about storytelling, legacy, and representation on a grand stage. The Muscogee Nation’s new identity wasn’t just a logo or a color scheme—it was a bold affirmation of who they are today and where they’re going.

At bao, we’re incredibly proud to have played a role in bringing this vision to life. Creating work that is not only visually stunning but also deeply meaningful is exactly why we do what we do.
